Event Recap: Annual Meeting and Scholarship Reception

The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Greater Cleveland held its Annual Meeting and honored five 2024 scholarship recipients with a Scholars Reception on August 7, 2024 at Windows on the River.

We are proud that these new Buckeyes now represent some of the best and brightest students from northeast Ohio at The Ohio State University: Leah Campbell (Lakewood; Colin Dedo (St. Edwards); Sophia Henrich (Bay Village); Caden Kozak (Shaker Hts.) and Daniel Sher (Solon).

The Club members in attendance also elected Matt Markling to the position of Vice President. Congratulations! Steve Rambo, past President, received a scarlet sports jacket, as a “thanks” for his service as President.

Denise Dufala was the featured guest speaker who spoke to the students about learning from successes and failures. She gave many from her own life. Denise received her B.A. in Journalism from The Ohio State University in 1987. She is an Emmy award winning journalist who spent many years working as a news anchor at Channels 8 and 19 in Cleveland. Denise is also a children’s author and is the National Ambassador for the “Be Kind; Stick Together” anti-bullying program.

Several scholarship recipients from past years were invited back to share tips for success with the new recipients. These scholars were Isabelle Levy, Allysa Bruchieri, Renee Duffy, Emma McConnell and Lila Tye. We concluded the evening as we do at every gathering with the singing of “Carmen, Ohio.”
