10. Football Tickets
The Buckeyes won the National Championship in 2015, and are contenders for the National Championship under Urban Meyer every year! Therefore tickets to the games at the Shoe are always in high demand, and prices demanded by scalpers will be outrageous. We have a ticket raffle for members where for only $1 each (or 6 for $5) you get a chance to purchase a pair of tickets to one of the home games. The first name drawn gets first choice of what game they want to purchase, and so on until 7 names have been drawn and all tickets have been purchased. And these are great seats in section 22A, around the 40 yard line! We also have a ticket exchange program for members only, where members buy and sell tickets at face value. So if you are the first person to request tickets to a certain game, you will be the first person contacted when another member is looking to sell tickets to that game.
9. Game Watches
If you can’t go to the Columbus or other cities to see the Buckeyes in person, what better way to cheer on the Bucks than with other Buckeye fans! We host football game watches for all away football games, selected home football games, and selected basketball games. Most are held at the Barley House, centrally located downtown on West 6th St., however we have also had game watches in Strongsville, Middleburg Hts., Sheffield Village, Parma, Lyndhurst and at Kamm’s Corners. We combine watching the game with raffles, sales of Buckeye “stuff”, good food and drink specials, and lots of fun!
8. Other Club Events
We have an annual golf outing which has proven to be very successful and well attended. We also have an annual football appreciation banquet at Windows on the River, where we welcome former coaches and players. Past Banquets have featured the 2002 National Championship team, the 1994 team (John Cooper’s first win over That School Up North), and the 2005 team (Fiesta Bowl victors). Besides these two annual events, we have had beer tastings, wine tastings, group attendance at Indians games, toboggan parties, family picnics, and more! Plus all members are welcome to march with us every year in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
7. Free Movies!
We periodically offer members opportunities to attend screenings of upcoming movies before they are released at no cost! Recent movies members have attended for free include Mother’s Day, The Jungle Book, Miracles from Heaven, Eddie the Eagle, and the Jesse Owens bio-pic Race.
Members showing their membership card get discounts at various establishments, including Boulder Creek Golf Club, Hard Rock Café, selected Buffalo Wild Wings, Campus Grille, Grande’s Nursery, and the Cross Fit workout facility. Plus you can get a discount on lawn service from Best Greening Services.
We have members representing just about every walk of life that you will get to network with. Our immediate past president is the Law Director for Rocky River, and our Board members include a former mayor, business owners and executives, lawyers, and educators. Buckeyes who are always willing to meet with and help other Buckeyes!
4. Alumni Band
Want to hear Buckeye music played live without traveling to Columbus? We have an active Alumni Band right here in Cleveland that performs for many of our events (game watches, golf outing, football banquet, etc) plus appears at events all around town, including weddings and private parties.
3. Board Membership opportunities
Each year we have positions on our Board open up. Want to help direct the activities of the Club? Come join us!
2. Buckeye Pride
The University has given us a lot of reasons to be proud – it is one of only five universities to have won a NCAA national championship in baseball and men’s basketball, and be recognized as a national champion in football. Ohio State has also won national championships in men’s swimming & diving, men’s outdoor track & field, men’s volleyball, men’s golf, men’s gymnastics, men’s fencing, co-ed fencing, women’s pistol and team pistol, synchronized swimming, and wrestling. Plus we are the top public institution of higher learning in the State, with our national academic ranking continuing to climb. Being a member of the Club is just another way to identify yourself with the THE Ohio State University.
1. THE STUDENTS
This is by far the most important reason to join, and the main reason that we exist. After meeting our expenses for website hosting, mailing costs, etc. (no member of the Board benefits personally), all funds collected and the proceeds from all events goes to scholarships for deserving high school seniors from the area to attend the University. We receive well over 100 applications each year, personally interview about two dozen of these students, and grant scholarships to several future Buckeyes, including one four-year renewable scholarship. The students we interview are all amazing!
